To help you with your trip to Lisbon Surf Camp, below are a group of questions with answers.

1. GENERAL

ARE YOU OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND?

Yes, we never close.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES DO YOU PROVIDE?

We are experts in Surf classes for all levels – beginners, intermediate and advanced.
We provide two surf lessons per day which include some theory and lots of practice.After surf activities –   We are located in a quaint village 5mins from Guincho beach and by the foothills of Sintra hills, so any ocean related activity may be provided as well as yoga, biking, climbing, hiking, after surf massage sessions and a tourist guide service. Lisbon is 30 minutes away by car and Sintra town 15 minutes by car. Cascais 8 minutes from Lisbon Surf camp is an international hub of diversion itself and worthwhile town to be explored and enjoyed.At the camp at night we hold activities to get people together like BBQ, photo session analysis, socializing, sharing surf experiences and know how.If you are into going out on a tourist tour or out on the town, we can advise you which spots to visit so you can make the most of the available time.

2. BOOKING WITH LISBON SURF CAMP

HOW MANY DAYS IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?

We can only guarantee the availability of the service once we have received payment of the 30% deposit, so the earlier you book the better.
For last minute enquiries please either send us an email,  skype or tel us at  +351 965 589 905.
As long as there’s availability, you are always welcome.

HOW DO WE PAY THE 30% RESERVATION?

As soon as you inform us by mail or via our online booking form which dates, services and package you would like, we will send you a  pre confirmation on booking availability. 
To secure the booking, a payment of 30% of the total is payable by  a pay pal link or bank transfer. 
We will send you the relevant info by mail after receiving your enquiry.

WHEN DO WE NEED TO PAY THE BALANCE?

We kindly ask you to settle the payment on check-in at Lisbon Surf Camp.

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?

Discounts are available to groups starting with a minimum 4 persons. 
This discount is applicable only to our WEEK SURF & STAY packages (minimum 6 nights and 5 days of surf classes). 
Regular clients are also given discounts.

CANCELLATIONS

Should you cancel or not show up after having effected payment for your booking, your 30% deposit is not refundable. The value of your deposit will remain as a credit for 1 year that you can use to book an alternative date of your choice.

OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS

LX Surf Camp undertakes to provide you with quality services, as described on our website. 
Any guest staying or surfing with us agrees with the terms & conditions below as well as the statement of responsability and equipment usage terms and conditions.
Weather conditions – Weather conditions are entirely beyond our control, and, therefore, we cannot guarantee you ideal surfing conditions at all times, whether on account of weather or because there simply are no waves. However should that happen, we will do our best and create alternative schedules to the right beach for your surfing level.
Cancellations – Should you cancel or not show up after having effected payment for your booking, your 30% deposit is not refundable. The value of your deposit will remain as a credit for 1 year that you can use to book an alternative date of your choice.
Insurance – Our sports accident cover only covers accidents that may happen during our surf classes and transportation on vehicles belonging to the LX Surf Camp. In any event, we advise you to take all risks cover with regard to your trip.

 

 

3. ACCOMMODATION 

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN EACH ROOM?

We have rooms for 5, 4, 3 and 2 persons.
We can also organize alternate accommodation for large groups. Your comfort and wellbeing are our focus, so we will try to accommodate and avoid putting people from different groups or genders together in the same room.

DO YOU PROVIDE SHEETS AND BLANKETS?

Yes, we provide all linen – sheets, blankets and bath towels

WHAT CHOICE OF ACCOMMODATION IS AVAILABLE?

We have shared and private. Please refer to our website menu Location LX SURF camp option for more details.

IS THE FOOD INCLUDED IN THE ACCOMMODATION?

Up to you. Fullboard includes all meals. Other alternatives are available. The STAY ONLY package option includes breakfast only. We also have a BBQ area. For larger groups of 5 or more people we can arrange meals for you. We also have a vegetarian option available. Please advise us of any special needs when you fill the booking form in.

CAN I TAKE ACCOMMODATION AND SURF LESSONS AND THE PERSON WHO COMES WITH ME JUST ACCOMMODATION?

Yes, you can take one package and the other person can take another one.

 

 

4. SURF CLASSES

WHAT SHOULD WE BRING?

Besides your personal belongings, you should bring:
  • sunscreen;
  • sun block for the face (you can also use Zinc cream for sensitive areas like, nose, lips and cheeks)
  • aloe vera (relieves sunburn)
  • sunglasses and cap
  • beach towel
  • waterproof ear plugs if you have “sensitive” ears or hearing problems. •
  • swimsuit to wear underneath the wetsuit.
In addition to your lighter beach gear, make sure you bring some warm clothes (jacket, pants, long sleeves, pullover, windbreaker, beanies) because the temperature can drop quite a bit after sunset.

HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DO YOU STAY IN THE WATER?

Each lesson lasts for about  2hrs total.

WHAT DAYS ARE THE LESSONS ON?

The lessons are normally from Monday to Friday,  with option for one or two lessons per day but we can arrange for lessons on the weekend.

DO YOU GIVE PRIVATE LESSONS?

Yes we do Private lessons and technical Evolution coaching.
These are usually done on weekends.

CAN I HAVE ONLY THE LESSONS?

CAN MY CHILDREN OF 8 YEARS OLD HAVE SURF LESSONS?

Children are at a good age to start surfing from the age of 5. In fact the best age is even 8, 9 years old. They might start with private lessons but if they take group lessons it might be more motivating to be learning with other children.
We have wetsuits for all sizes of children and soft boards for beginners.
Our surf instructors are qualified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and experienced with children for we run regular surf lessons with local international schools.

IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE FOR THE SURF LESSONS?

There is no minimum number  at Lisbon Surf Camp.
There are many beaches and reefs in the area that provide small waves ideal for learning even during large wave conditions.

 

 

5. SURF EQUIPMENT

CAN WE RENT THE SURF EQUIPMENT?

Yes, but you have some rules to follow: Rental rules:
1 – Passport required.
2 – Rental hours: From 9:00 to 20:00.
3 – The client must bring all the equipment back before 20:00.
4 – The equipment must be returned every day in good condition: wetsuit and surfboard washed and clean.
5 – If you wish to keep the equipment at home you must leave a deposit of 250 EUR which will be given back to you when you return the equipment in good condition!

CAN WE USE THE SURF EQUIPMENT AFTER THE SURF LESSONS?

The surf equipment is included with the classes. You will have two surf sessions per day. Usually after two surf sessions you will feel tired, but if you wish to use the surf material outside of the classes, you need to rent and pay for these after you finish the surf lessons.

CAN I RENT ONLY THE EQUIPMENT?

Equipment hire and responsibility statement

  1. Equipment hire requires a deposit of a valid ID – passport, id card or driver’s license plus 250€ in cash.
  2. Due payment for equipment hire will be deducted from deposit on return of equipment.
  3. Equipment needs to be returned with no damages otherwise penalties will be applied as per table below.
  4. Delay in returning equipment on time, will be liable to additional charges as per half day / full day rental fee.
  5. Responsibility Statement – equipment hire is the sole responsibility of the person hiring it.

LISBON Surf camp Insurance does not cover any damages / total loss / or stolen equipment by equipment hirers and / or injuries suffered and / or inflicted onto third parties.

6. SURF

DO YOU OPERATE SURF LESSONS ALL YEAR ROUND?

Yes! On Lisbon Estoril Coast you are able to surf all year round.
We also have excellent, warm wetsuits, booties and gloves for the winter. 
In addition we organize trips to warmer regions like the Algarve and along the Alentejo coasts during the winter months.

WHAT ARE THE NEAREST SURF SPOTS?

Guincho is 5 minutes by car or a 20 min walk away. There is also a bus stop on the main road across from the entrance drive way to the surf camp.

WHAT’S THE DISTANCE FROM THE SURF CAMP TO THE NEAREST BEACH?

About 2 kilometers.

WHAT’S THE WATER TEMPERATURE LIKE?

The coldest it gets is in January-February, and it goes as low as 14º Celsius (4/3 wetsuit required). The rest of the year is around 17ºC (3/2 wetsuit or shorty) and in July and August it can get as high as 23ºC (maybe just board shorts!!).

WHAT’S THE LEVEL OF SURFING THAT YOU NEED TO SURF?

There are a number of surf spots so there is always a break for every level of surfer.

ARE THERE RIPS IN THE SURF SPOTS?

Rips are not a problem in the Guincho area.

IS THE ESTORIL COAST A GOOD PLACE TO SURF?

It’s a very consistent surf spot, there are waves all year round. It is considered to be the most consistent surf spot in Portugal. Carcavelos has got a very famous wave, considered to be the best beach break in Portugal.  The Estoril Coast has a host of options and is a true urban surf destination.

WHAT’S THE BEST SEASON TO CATCH GOOD WAVES?

The best season is Autumn, Winter and Spring.
Summer conditions – waves are smaller but still very rippleable and great for beginners.     

WHAT’S WINTER SURF LIKE AT LISBON SURF CAMP?

 September, October, November months are fantastic here as we enjoy an extended summer.
 SURF breaks are COSTA DA CAPARICA, CARCAVELOS, S.PEDRO and GUINCHO.
 In addition we organize surfaris to various other regions – Alentejo, Algarve and an annual Maldives boat trip. 
The other advantages are you can enjoy less crowds on the beaches, and mid season rates. :)

 

 

7. GETTING TO US

WHAT’S THE BEST AIRPORT TO GET TO?

Lisbon airport is the closest one (35 minutes drive, 1h35m by bus+TRAIN)

WHAT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO GET TO LISBON SURF CAMP?

The easiest way to get to Lisbon surf camp is to request a transfer service from us.

We will pick you up at the airport. When you exit the airport door there will be a person holding a name board with your name written on it. This person is the driver who will bring you to Lisbon surf camp.

IF WE RENT A CAR AT THE AIRPORT, HOW DO WE GET TO LISBON SURF CAMP?

On homepage see GPS coordinates or consult the Google map link.
To get to Lisbon Surf Camp from the airport is not difficult: ask the car rental personnel at the airport to give
you directions on how to get onto the A5 Cascais highway.
Exit the highway right at the end direction Aldeia do JuZo. After passing a REPSOL petrol station turn Right at a small round about. Follow the road to a Zambujeiro road sign and at that sign turn left. There is a Panisol bakery on that corner. Follow the road some 500 metres till you come across a bus stop on your left hand side 414. Turn right off the main road and immediately right again between two posts. Follow the dirt road to the entrance of the surf house.

HOW CAN WE GO FROM LISBON AIRPORT TO LISBON SURF CAMP?

If we are not picking you up at the airport, the best way is to get a taxi or shuttle bus from the airport to the central railway station CAIS DO SODRÉ. When you have caught the train advise us by telf or sms or mail and we’ll have someone waiting for you at CASCAIS station. This pick up service is free of charge if you are taking minimum 6 NIGHTS accommodation and 5 days surf classes (Pack 1) or minimum  6 NIGHTS accommodation and 5 days surf rental. All the other customers pay 7€ for the transfer for 1 – 4  persons. More than  4 persons please ask us for a price. Just be sure to get off at the end of the Cais do Sodre – Cascais route; it’s the last stop, CASCAIS.

 

 

8. GETTING AROUND 

DO I NEED A CAR TO GET AROUND?

No, we can arrange transport for you and there is a bus stop on the main road just outside the Surf camp property. Number 414 bus takes you to the beach and Cascais centre, # 402 brings you back from the surf spots.   Alternatively, if you wish to be independently mobile, we can organize a car for you to rent at unbeatable prices.  

WHERE IS THE NEAREST ATM?

Near, in the village  ALDEIA DE JUZO

WHERE IS THE NEAREST BAR?

Guincho beach has two bars on either end of the beach plus a third during the summer months. There are also local bars in Areia and Murches close to the surf house and camp.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST HOSPITAL?

In Cascais (5km)

WHERE IS THE NEAREST PHARMACY?

In Aldeia de Juzo, 1 km distance

WHERE IS THE NEAREST RESTAURANT?

There are many in the immediate area including some popular surfer hangouts in Areia and around Guincho beach – we will inform you of our favorites and best value for money ones once you’re settled in our camp

WHERE IS THE NEAREST SURF BEACH FROM LISBON SURF CAMP?

Guincho is less than 2 km  away.

ARE THERE ANY SURF SHOPS AROUND?

We have partnership with various top surf brands and can advise you and help you get the best gear for your money.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST INTERNET ACCESS POINT?

At the surf camp. We have wireless access so bring your own laptop.
